The newly complete Brisbane West Wellcamp airport (BWWA) held a community open day over the weekend.
More than 27,000 Queenslanders attended took advantage of the opportunity to explore the airport before it officially begins operation on 17 November.
The highlight of the day was a race between 2014 IndyCar champion Will Power and a Cessna Mustang Citation jet. Power tested out the new 2.87km runway. He lost the first race but a rematch saw him take out the win!
Wagners’ director and event organiser John Wagner said he was very appreciative of the community turning out and visiting the new airport.
“It was fantastic to see the airport so busy with almost 20 different aircraft on the ground, a sure sign of things to come,” he said.
BWWA is Australia’s first privately funded public airport and is located near Toowoomba.
