The next film from Marvel Studios has a very Antipodean flavour.

Aussie Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor, facing off with Cate Blanchett as the villainous Hela, the Goddess of Death. The film — which was shot in Australia — is directed by Kiwi Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), who looks to have knocked his first crack at a Hollywood blockbuster out of the park.

If this trailer is anything to go by, the film will have all the spectacle we’ve come to expect of the Marvel cinematic universe, as well as a nice helping of Waititi’s trademark sense of humour.

If they can get the balance between action and comedy right, this could very well end up being the best Marvel movie yet. At the very least, it should be one of the most fun.

Thor: Ragnarok swings into Australian theatres on Thursday 26 October.
