The New Zealand phenom has just released Green Light, her first single in three years.
It’s hard to believe that Lorde is still only 20 years old.
The singer shot to fame when she was just 16 years old. After dropping one massive album (Pure Heroine) and a string of hit singles (including Royals, Tennis Court, Team and Yellow Flicker Beat), and being named one of Time‘s most influential teenagers in the world in 2013, she went to ground and got to work on her follow-up.
At first, Green Light sounds overly familiar, like it could have been an album track on Pure Heroine. But then it explodes into uncharted territory for the artist, becoming a joyous, up-tempo floor-filler that pushes Lorde into the pop stratosphere.
The video reflects Lorde’s transformation into a dance diva, as she dances alone in a club bathroom and on top of an SUV.
Green Light is just a taste, of course, of Lorde’s forthcoming sophomore album, Melodrama. She has tweeted that the LP will tell the story “of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life”.
Colour us intrigued.
