That’s not a garden broom. THIS is a garden broom.

Dan Hoey, the owner and operator of Salty Dog Charters in Port Fairy, Victoria, has posted what might just be the most Australian video ever to YouTube.

On one of his charters, Hoey noticed a shark was circling his boat — and not just any shark, but a great white shark that Hoey reckons was 5.5 metres long.

“This big beast turned up and wouldn’t leave us alone,” Hoey said. “[It] nearly took a chunk out of my Yamaha motors, leaving a few small dents and scratches.”

That’s when Hoey took matters into his own hands, and shooed the shark away with a garden broom. Incredibly, the unorthodox technique actually worked.

According to the video’s caption, Hoey is just glad he had a bigger boat.

“What a BIG BEAST! Sorry about the language. Great to see but I’m glad we weren’t in a 10 feet tinny…”

To be clear, we here at Bmag are against violence of any kind towards sharks, because sharks are awesome. But we think in this case, a gentle nudge with a garden broom was justified.
