There are ‘unknowns’, and then there are unknowns. Before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, British actress Daisy Ridley wasn’t on anyone’s radar, having appeared only briefly in random episodes of shows like Casualty, Silent Witness and Mr Selfridge.

Now it seems like the whole world knows who she is, because she absolutely nailed the lead role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

How did such a dark horse come out of nowhere to take on such a huge responsibility? It all comes down to this audition tape.

The audition scene is an interrogation sequence between her character, Rey, and the villainous Kylo Ren. It’s intense stuff, and Ridley doesn’t shy away from it.

After watching the clip, we think you’ll agree that Ridley’s audition lived up to director JJ Abrams’ demands for a “vulnerable and tough and sweet and terrifying” actress to play the role.

The clip is taken from the behind-the-scenes features on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which will be available to own on Digital HD from Friday 1 April, and coming home on Blu-Ray and DVD from Wednesday 13 April.
