After months of controversy, the first trailer for director Paul Feig’s all-female reboot of Ghostbusters is finally here.
The film sees Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones take up the ghostbusting mantle (the original cast, with the exception of the late Harold Ramis, are expected to cameo, but don’t appear in this trailer).
It looks like… well, it looks like a Ghostbusters movie, plain and simple, and the fact that the leads are all women isn’t treated like it’s a big deal.
If anything, despite the complaints of fans who thought the casting decision would lead to drastic changes to the franchise they grew up with, it looks like the film will end up being pretty similar — maybe even too similar — to the classic 1984 original (except there’ll be plenty of CGI ghosts in this one, which isn’t necessarily a good thing).
Love it or hate it, Ghostbusters will haunt Australian cinemas from Thursday 14 July.
