Even though Superbowl is an American event, the world still tunes in. But not for the game, but rather, for the entertainment.

This year, the halftime performance was by Katy Perry and she roared her way to ratings success. Perry took the stage at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for Super Bowl XLIX where the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots were battling it out for the win.

Riding in on a giant mechanical lion with glowing red eyes, the singer performed a medley of her biggest hits, including Roar, I Kissed A Girl, Dark Horse and Firework.

She was joined by Lenny Kravitz who played I Kissed A Girl with Perry, and Missy Elliott who rapped Work It and Loose Cannons. The show was visually stunning, whimsical and full of typical Katy Perry moments. For example, during Dark Horse, Perry’s backup dancers, who were dressed as chess pieces, came to life prancing around a gigantic board.

Just before the event, Perry posted a photo on Twitter of herself as a child and captioned it – “Today is for this girl. She had the dream, always believed in herself & her worth. Today she is the one smiling.”
