Nine fire crews are working to put out a shed fire at an industrial site north of Brisbane.

Firefighters were called to Caboolture at around 3.30pm (AEST) on Sunday and saw smoke billowing from a building, reported to be a sawmill.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control around 5pm and have been trying to extinguish the fire ever since.

“A large smoke plume is affecting nearby residents who are advised to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by,” Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said in a statement.

Motorists in the area are urged to drive with caution.
