WA Premier Colin Barnett says the vast majority of Muslims living in Australia are peace loving, hard working, Australian citizens.
Premier Colin Barnett wants to meet Muslim leaders in Western Australia to reassure them they are welcome in the state, following last week’s counter-terrorism raids.
Mr Barnett told reporters on Sunday it was important to be conscious of any racial or religious tensions after Thursday’s events in Sydney and Brisbane.
“Australia and is a very welcoming country and a very peaceful country,” he said.
“And the vast, vast majority of Muslims living in Australia are peace-loving, hard-working Australian citizens.
Mr Barnett said Islamic leaders in Perth had done enough to speak out against extremists, and the threat of violence came from only a small number of people.
