Brisbane Roar have retained the services of Germany captain Nadine Angerer for the upcoming W-League season.

Brisbane have landed a coup with experienced Germany captain Nadine Angerer to return to the Roar for the upcoming W-League season.

Angerer, the reigning FIFA women’s world player of the year, announced on Friday she has signed on for a second season with the Roar.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper’s recruitment was a massive boost to the league, with Angerer boasting one of the longest list of achievements in the women’s game.

A two-time World Cup winner, Angerer has won five European Championships with her country and was also last year’s UEFA player of the year.

Roar coach Belinda Wilson said Angerer’s decision to return for another season in Australia is a great lift for the club.

“Last season, her leadership qualities on and off the pitch enhanced the qualities we had within our squad and we now have a great understanding of her expectations here in Brisbane,” Wilson said.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Nadine back and seeing what more she can bring to Brisbane Roar.”

Angerer will miss the first two rounds of the W-League against Perth and Sydney FC due to national team commitments before arriving in time to play in round three against Newcastle on September 27.
