A merger between the Palmer United Party and Katter’s Australian Party would never be allowed, says PUP senator Jacqui Lambie.
Palmer United Party senator Jacqui Lambie says she would never be a part of a merger with Katter’s Australian Party.
The resignation of Queensland MP Alex Douglas from PUP has sparked rumours the former state parliamentary leader wanted to merge the two minor parties.
Dr Douglas has ruled out joining his uncle Bob Katter’s party.
But Senator Lambie said she understood Dr Douglas was trying to “bring the Katter clan over”.
“I made my point quite clear with Clive early on that I wanted to be very removed from the Katter party,” she told Sky News on Tuesday.
“I’ve no interest in being mixed up with him whatsoever.”
Asked what she would do if a merger took place, Senator Lambie said neither Clive Palmer nor any of the senators would approve it.
“Bob Katter’s party won’t be merged, not with me in the party and you will find among the four of us it wouldn’t ever be discussed – absolutely not.”
