Young Rebels halfback Ben Meehan has completed the Melbourne Rising squad for the upcoming National Rugby Championship (NRC).
Rebels halfback Ben Meehan has been added to the Melbourne Rising squad for the upcoming National Rugby Championship (NRC).
The inclusion of Meehan finalises the 33-man squad.
Meehan, who moved to Melbourne from the Queensland Reds academy this season, made seven Super Rugby appearances for the Rebels.
Meehan said he was looking forward to playing in the new national third-tier competition.
“I don’t like training too much, so the more rugby I can play the better,” he said.
The 21-year-old is hoping to use the competition to close the gap on first-choice Rebels halfbacks Nic Stirzaker and Luke Burgess.
“I’m constantly trying to put pressure on Luke Burgess and Nic Stirzaker at the Rebels … so hopefully I can put a lot more pressure on them by performing in this competition,” Meehan said.
Stirzaker is in the squad alongside Meehan, while Burgess has been included in the Wallabies squad.
The Rising open their campaign against North Harbour Rays at AAMI Park on Friday, August 22.
