A NSW man has died and four more are in hospital after the 4WD they were travelling in crashed and flipped near the Queensland border overnight.

Police say the Toyota Hilux hit an embankment and rolled onto its roof on Terranora Road, Banora Point, about 1.30am (AEST) on Sunday.

One of the rear-seat passengers died at the scene, while the other four men were taken to The Tweed Hospital with minor injuries.

All men are believed to be from the Tweed Heads area and aged in their 20s.
