A 56-year-old man has been taken to hospital with burns after a house south of Gladstone burnt to the ground.

A central Queensland man is lucky to have escaped a house fire with minor burns.

The blaze destroyed the 56-year-old’s house on Burgess Road, Colosseum, south of Gladstone on Wednesday night.

Fire fighters arrived at the scene about 6.20pm (AEST) to find the house engulfed.

The man was taken to Gladstone Hospital with minor burns.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Police guarded the house overnight and investigators will comb the site on Thursday.
