These awards are designed to celebrate our local businesses and recognise the significant contribution to Brisbane’s $135 billion economy.

The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards are a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the success of Brisbane businesses, both locally and internationally.

This year marks the ninth year of the awards and for the first time they will feature a new category to recognise local companies forging strong links with Asia.

Businesses can be nominated for the 11 different award categories including recognising innovation, environmental sustainability, growth, digital strategy and investment.

A new award category – Doing Business in Asia – recognises businesses making an outstanding effort in building trade between Brisbane and Asia in areas such as education, energy and resources, design and property, manufacturing or value-added industries including accountancy and legal services.

The new category highlights Brisbane’s growing role as a business hub in Asia, a region with which we share increasingly close economic, trade and cultural links.

The other major change for 2014 sees the Australia TradeCoast Award for Business Growth become exclusively for Small Business Growth, open to small and medium enterprises employing up to 200 people.

The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards highlight why an increasing number of decision-makers worldwide are choosing Brisbane for business, investment, study and conventions.

If you know of a business that should be recognised at the business awards, nominations can be made at www.lmba.com.au. Nominations are open until the 18th July.

Winners will be chosen by an independent judging panel. Brisbane is currently raising the bar when it comes to innovation, collaboration, research and development. More and more Brisbane businesses are representing our city on the world stage through expanding their goods and services.

I look forward to celebrating our business community’s achievements at the awards night in October, where our winners will be joined by winners from past years.
