The Christmas and New Year holiday period is a great opportunity to relax, unwind and spend some quality time with family and friends in the city.

It’s also a time to celebrate the successes of the year that has been and the prospects of the year to come!

And with celebrations all over the city, Council works hard to continue delivering its robust waste management and asset services program so that our public spaces are in top shape for residents to enjoy over summer.

I want Brisbane to be Australia’s cleanest and greenest city, which means ensuring basic services continue over the holiday period.

This includes services such as local grass cutting in our beautiful parks and rubbish and recycling bin pick-ups will carry on without interruption.

Summer is a vital time for residents to recycle, with up to 25 per cent more waste being produced by the average household compared to winter.

With our transfer stations open and our waste collection to continue uninterrupted through the holidays, we hope residents will remain conscious of recycling and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Kerbside collection will resume in selected suburbs from January 27 and Council’s tip shops will be open every weekend through summer for residents to pick-up a range of wonderful pre-loved furniture, tools, toys and books.

So please enjoy the celebrations and get out to some parks – Don’t forget to dispose of your rubbish thoughtfully so we can enjoy our clean and green city!
