Vintage fashion lovers will be lining up to get their hands on collector Carmel Bullivant’s huge archive of vintage fashion pieces from this Friday night at the RNA showgrounds.

The self-prescribed eccentric millionaire made her fortune developing the Nature’s Own vitamin empire which she and now ex-husband Vaughan sold for $137 million in 1999. Her vintage fashion pieces are legendary

Soon after, Bullivant bought Redcliffe’s Seaview Hotel and themed its Fishbowl restaurant in 1950s and 60s character where she staged daily fashion parades of the era’s dress, and so began an obsession with vintage fashion.

“It seemed so natural to go overseas with a handbag and come back with 15 of those plastic stripy bags crammed with vintage dresses and lingerie,” says Carmel of her buying trips which covered San Francisco, Los Angeles, Florida and Hawaii as well as England, Germany and New Zealand.

The more than 2000 pieces from Bullivant’s vintage fashion archive will go on sale this Friday October 25 at Building 7, the RNA Showgrounds, and continue on Saturday from 10-2.

The vintage fashion collection is mostly 1950s and 60s dresses but includes lingerie from the 1940s and some 1920s items. More than half the collection has never been worn and still has its original tags. Key pieces have graced the covers of magazines, featured in music videos for Silver Chair and Eskimo Joe and been worn by celebrities including musician Megan Washington.

Bullivant is hesitant to part with the stash but says she can’t be care taker of the collection any more. Items will range from $100 up, with most falling at around the $200 mark.
