Bringing big investment to Queensland
The United States is the world’s largest economy and is one of Queensland’s largest major sources of overseas investment.
I spent last week travelling the US with a senior Queensland business delegation in a bid to bring more business into our great State, and create more jobs for Queenslanders.
We had a clear message for our US trading partners – that Queensland is Australia’s engine room for economic growth and we are open for business.
There were a number of highlights including meeting with representatives of the National Football League to talk about the potential for Brisbane to host an NFL game.
I am happy to report back that this mission was a success with Queensland very much on the radar of the United States of America.
Brisbane’s BaT Tunnel named
After much deliberation, I am pleased to announce Capalaba’s Lynne Doyle is on the move for free after nominating BaT (Bus and Train) Tunnel as the name for Brisbane’s underground bus and train project.
The name for the once-in-a-generation project featuring a split level transport tunnel was chosen from almost 1,000 entries in the monthlong competition. There were some wonderfully creative names that an independent panel narrowed down to four sensible options and Lynne’s entry was chosen as the winner.
The three other short-listed names that caught the eye of the panel were River Link, River City Tunnel and B-Line and the people who nominated these will each receive a $50 top-up for their go card.
I congratulate Lynne and the finalists and thank the community for putting in their nominations for this very exciting project.
We are now getting down to the business end of the modelling and consultation for this project, to unlock the future of public transport through the heart of Brisbane.
