The historically great Queensland Firebirds will be honoured with a tickertape parade in Brisbane this Saturday.

The Firebirds pulled off a stunning 69-67 win against the NSW Swifts in a double extra time thriller on the weekend, becoming the first team ever to win back-to-back championships.

In honour of their achievement, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced that Brisbane will host a tickertape parade for the Firebirds on Saturday, running from the top of Queen Street Mall to King George Square.

“The Queensland Firebirds delivered a fantastic result, trumping the New South Wales Swifts after being equal at the end of extra time and taking out the trans-Tasman netball championship in front of a sell-out crowd,” Cr Quirk said.

The parade will commence at 12 noon, culminating with a presentation in King George Square at 12:30pm. Immediately after the presentation, at approximately 1:15pm, the Firebirds will be signing autographs for fans in King George Square.

The historic win on the weekend came in front of a crowd of 10,312 spectators (a record for netball in Queensland) at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

The win sealed the Firebirds’ third premiership of the ANZ Championship era, making them the most successful team of their generation.
