Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is inviting Brisbane residents and fans to celebrate the victorious Brisbane Bandits as they receive the Keys to the City on Tuesday 16 February at Reddacliff Place.

Last weekend, Brisbane played host to the Australian Baseball League Championship Series for the first time, with hometown heroes Brisbane Bandits taking the win from the Adelaide Bite.

Cr Quirk will present the Keys to the City to the team in recognition of its success.

“The Brisbane Bandits have proven themselves to be the premier team in the Australian Baseball League – further reinforcing Brisbane as an active and healthy city filled with vast sporting talent and a Team Brisbane attitude,” Cr Quirk said.

“This is a great win for the team and the entire city, which is why Council will be awarding the team with the Keys to the City at a ceremony shared with friends and devoted fans.

“If you love baseball and you’re a proud Brisbanite this is your chance to be part of home-run history and get up and close with members of the Brisbane Bandits team.”

The Brisbane Bandits represent Queensland in the Australian Baseball League, which entered its seventh season in 2016 and is going from strength to strength, inspiring and entertaining millions of fans and producing world-class baseball talent.

Cr Quirk said receiving the Keys to the City is the highest honour a Council can bestow on an individual or team.

“By receiving the Keys to the City, the Brisbane Bandits are following a long legacy of superior sporting talent including the Queensland Reds, Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Firebirds.

“I would encourage all residents to show their Team Brisbane spirit and join us in celebrating Brisbane Bandits success and Australian baseball history at this important event.”
