Queenland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today confirmed that the third instalment of the Marvel franchise, Thor: Ragnarok, will be filmed on the Gold Coast.

Starring Aussie Chris Hemsworth, filming is set to begin in June next year, with pre-production kicking off early in the New Year.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who fought for the movie to be filmed in the sunshine state during her first trade mission to the US, says she’s thrilled with the result.

“This is a huge win for Queensland,” the Premier said. “The production will spend more than $100 million AUD in Queensland and will employ over 750 Queensland crew.

“As our economy diversifies, Queensland is demonstrating its strength as a lead destination for filmmakers both internationally and locally.”

While several scenes will be filmed at the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast, other locations throughout Queensland are not off the table.

If it’s anything like the first two movies in the series, which combined to rack up more than $1 billion at the global box office, this next instalment is going to be huge!

Thor: Ragnarok is expected to hit cinemas in November 2017.
