Using Instagram just got a lot easier.

Instagram users can now upload portrait and landscape content without the app automatically cropping it to a square.

It mightn’t sound like earth-shattering news but for the photo-sharing app’s 200 million users this is the beginning of a new era.

To celebrate the new feature a snippet of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was exclusively released on Instagram.

Users have been assured this new option won’t spoil the clean look of a profile page with all content still to appear square on the homepage.

Only when you tap on the photo or video will it appear in the format you’ve chosen i.e. portrait, landscape or square.

In the past frustrated users opted for alternative apps like Whitagram and Cropic to post portrait or landscape content – they no longer have to go anywhere else!

Another plus for users, all filters will now work across photos and videos.
