The Federal Treasurer for Australia, Joe Hockey has had to once again defend his choice of wording after he offered some helpful advice to potential first home buyers.

Earlier this week Joe Hockey announced that there would be a crackdown on foreign home owners but said that this wasn’t the solution to the housing affordability crisis.

With the average property price in Sydney set to reach an average of one $1 million, Mr Hockey offered this bit of advice for the potential first home buyers.

“The Starting point for a first home-owner is to get a good job that pays good money,”

The advice hasn’t been taken lightly by many Australians and they’ve taken their distaste for the treasurer’s comments to social media with the hashtag #adviceforjoe.

The treasurer has defended his comments and has accused critics of ‘playing the man’ instead of discussing housing affordability policy.
