As if we needed reminding, Nicolette van Dam and Phillip Di Bella have demonstrated the perils of social media this week.
Dutch goodwill ambassador van Dam was forced to resign her post at UNICEF after angering Colombian soccer fans, while Queensland coffee king Di Bella had his 2014 Queensland Business of the Year Award revoked by Telstra after a series of controversial tweets during the last State of Origin clash.
But these are hardly the first times public figures have posted something regrettable on Twitter (usually followed by a swift deletion and apology to the masses).
From politicians revealing too much of themselves to celebrities having a meltdown, there’s always something going on in the Twitter-sphere that might just be offensive enough to cost someone their career.
