This weekend when you are celebrating Australia Day remember that no to litter, because come Monday people will want to enjoy the rubbish free beaches, parks and waterways.

Our Nation will be celebrating Australia Day this weekend and there are hundreds of events going on in parks, near beaches and close to water ways.

Unfortunately parties and large gatherings mean tonnes of extra litter.

What Aussies need to remember that no matter where, when or how you are celebrating all our litter needs to end up in the bin.

Keep Australia Beautiful wants to keep our beaches, highways and waterways clean and it is up to us Aussies to be responsible when disposing of rubbish.

Keep Australia Beautiful know that everything from tents, umbrellas, prams and foldout chairs, to bathers, bikinis, thongs, sandals, sunscreen, toys, towels and piles of Australia Day paraphernalia will be discarded by departing reveller after the celebrations.

Keep Australia Beautiful has joined up with waste service companies JJ Richards and ISS Facility Services to issue this call to action to all Australians: ‘Don’t be a drongo – pick up your litter’.

Keep Australia Beautiful National CEO Peter McLean said we could all enjoy the great outdoors this weekend without leaving a mess.

“Nobody wants to picnic in a tip or have a barbeque surrounded by rubbish,” Mr McLean said.

Many organisations around Australia work hard to keep our nation looking beautiful like local Bushcare groups and Save Our Waterways Now.

Clean Up Australia Day falls on the 2 March this year but Australian need to be vigilant all year especially during times of celebration.
