Snoop Dogg is due to hit the Gold Coast in January for Big Day Out, but a petition is gathering thousands of signatures to make sure the rapper never steps foot on Aussie soil.
A petition pleading with Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to revoke Snoop Dog’s (Snoop Lion as he now prefers) Visa is gaining head-way on change.org.
Change.org is a website that claims to be the world’s platform for change, it basically consists of petitions that people can choose to support or ignore.
The Snoop Dog petition has now cracked over 3,000 supporters and is well over half way to its 5,000 supporters goal.
Talitha Stone posted the petition stating ;“Snoop Dogg’ (more recently ‘Snoop Lion’), real name Calvin Broadus, promotes hate speech against women. He is famous for his misogynistic lyrics…”
Ms. Stone has posted other petitions on the site concerning Snoop Dog and his wild and offensive ways. This time around she has done her research and even thrown in a reference to Australian Immigration Fact Sheet 78 on Controversial Visa Applicants.
Snoop Dog has had his fair share of immigration issues with Australia already, his visa was revoked due to his criminal record in 2007 and then in 2008 it was re-instated after a character assessment.
Ms. Stone refers to Australia’s many campaigns that target violence against women and how allowing Snoop Dogg into the country does not correspond with these values.
“As a society which claims to be serious about eradicating violence against women, there should be no place for recording artists who glorify misogyny and degrade women for entertainment.”
There is also a counter petition on change.org begging for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to allow Snoop Dogg to enter Australia. The counter petition is far less popular and only has 79 supporters.
