This summer Brisbane is thriving with events, festivals, markets and sport and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is excited for the perspective tourism boom.
If you like the heat and humidity Brisbane is a great place to be this summer. There is so much happening in the River City over the coming weeks it is hard to choose just a few events to attend or shows to see.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk agrees that Brisbane has plenty to offer its residents and tourist this summer season.
“Whether its sport, art, theatre, music, comedy, shopping, fine dining, markets or festivals, Brisbane has it covered this summer,” said Cr Quirk.
Mayor Quirk went on to say it is Brisbane climate and energetic atmosphere that draws visitors here from around Australia and overseas.
A $680,000 Summer Tourism campaign was launched in October in hope of attracting holiday-makers over the summer months.
Brisbane has certainly been getting into the Christmas spirit with an impressive amount of events across the city.
“Christmas in the City is wowing crowds, especially in King George Square where visitors can enjoy both the largest solar-powered Christmas tree in the Southern Hemisphere and the Gold Lotto City Hall Light Spectacular. The Christmas spirit has continued across the River with the Bright Star program at South Bank,” said Cr Quirk.
We also have the Brisbane International to look forward to, which over the past two years has attracted more than 180,000 spectators from Queensland, interstate and overseas. This year it features world class players like Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt and Serena Williams.
Add to this new shows opening at QPAC and new displays at the Queensland Museum, Brisbane is certainly serving up some quality entertainment this summer.
Cr Quirk is certain the amazing events and attractions will have a positive affect for Brisbane Businesses.
“Events such as these have a flow-on effect and I know many Brisbane Marketing members including hotels, restaurants and tour operators have reported a summer surge in bookings.”
