“Think Queensland, buy locally this Christmas’ is a campaign the State Government has launched this festive season to encourage Queenslanders to buy local produce and products this Christmas.

With every dollar spent to buy locally this Christmas will help by feeding back through the community through wages, rates and on-purchasing of good sand materials, the push to buy local is one that benefits communities.

If we all make a conscious decision to buy locally this Christmas we are supporting small business and in a lot of cases our neighbours and keeping the local economy healthy. Local business needs our support as big business dominates the retail environment

“Queensland’s 410,000 small businesses represent 96 per cent of all businesses in the state and employ more than one million Queenslanders,” says Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey. “They underpin the Queensland economy, spanning every industry sector.”

“Queenslanders due to their proud nature have a desire to holiday and buy locally this Christmas and rightly so,” says Nick Behrens, General Manager of Advocacy at CCIQ. “Our products, offerings and services are world class and deliver very high satisfaction for the customer.”

The campaign builds on the already successful “Think Queensland, buy locally” campaign that was launched earlier this year in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ).

Local businesses can get involved and be proactive by taking advantage of a themed festive resource that is now available to download from the Queensland business and industry portal www.business.qld.gov.au.These include ‘Think Queensland, buy locally this festive season’ poster and sticker designs to display in local businesses. Flyers, bunting and a factsheet are also available

Likewise, you and I can get involved and support local business by heading to your local farmers’ market to buy your produce for Christmas Day lunch to support the local economy and buy the freshest products available. You might even pick up some unusual and unique gifts!
