Excelsior! A stellar line-up of pop, electronica and rock acts have been announced for the Up Late component of GOMA’s Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe program.
Live music from Australian acts Art vs Science, Black Cab, Habits, Olympia, NO ZU and ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Models will feature in the Up Late program, which will run across six Friday nights.
The Up Late events will also include a resident DJ, pop-up bars and talks in the exhibition space.
QAGOMA director Chris Saines says the Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe Up Late program will make the heavily anticipated exhibition even more memorable.
“This Up Late program offers audiences a unique after-dark experience of Australia’s first major Marvel exhibition — the largest ever presented in an art museum,” he says.
“It’s a superhero-sized Friday night out!”
Doors for the Up Late events will open from 5:30pm each Friday, with resident DJ Emma Stevenson spinning records in GOMA’s River Room, before the headline performers take to the stage on the following dates:
- 28 July — Art vs Science
- 4 August — Black Cab
- 11 August — Habits
- 18 August — Olympia
- 25 August — Models
- 1 September — NO ZU
Each evening will feature a local artisan delivering an ‘All in the Details’ talk, in which they will highlight and discuss the craftsmanship involved in their favourite pieces in the exhibition. Speakers will include Robert Everingham, make-up artist Billie Weston, jeweller Bianca Mavrick, and textiles conservator Michael Marendy.
The exhibition, which will run from Saturday 27 May to Sunday 3 September, will feature more than 500 objects from Marvel’s archives and private collections, including iconic items like Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, more than 60 original costumes, and even never-before-seen set pieces from the upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarok.
To coincide with the exhibition, GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque will screen all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, from Iron Man to the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.
