Star Wars fans from around the world are converging on Orlando this weekend for Lucasfilm’s annual Star Wars Celebration — but Brisbanites don’t need to go anywhere.

Netherworld, Fortitude Valley’s arcade bar and diner, is certainly a wretched hive of scum and villainy — so it’s the perfect venue to host a Star Wars celebration.

On Thursday 4 May (aka Star Wars Day), Netherworld will host a celebration of the smugglers, bounty hunters, Sith lords and Huttese crime bosses of the galaxy.

They’ll have a Star Wars pinball machine, and the classic Star Wars Atari Cockpit Arcade machine.

Each console in the venue will have a classic Star Wars game, from Super Star Wars through to Star Wars Episode I: Racer.

There’ll be Star Wars-themed beers, and you’ll be able to scarf down Rodian hot dogs from the far reaches of the Outer Rim at the Hellmouth Diner.

Make sure you wear your best Darth Vader, Rey or Max Rebo costume, because prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed nerf herders, heroes and villains.

Scum & Villainy: A Star Wars Celebration will be held at Netherworld (186 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley) from 6:30pm to 11:30pm on Thursday 4 May. There’s plenty more to be announced, so make sure you keep that date free on your Galactic Standard Calendar…
