Comedy superstar Chris Rock is bringing his Total Blackout tour to Brisbane.

The comedian, actor, director, writer and producer has only toured Australia once before, way back in 2008, although he has made promotional appearances in the meantime.

The Total Blackout tour kicked off in the US last month to rave reviews.

“Chris Rock fans are in for a night of spectacular comedy,” says promoter Paul Dainty, who is also responsible for bringing Rock’s friend Jerry Seinfeld to Australia this year.

“Chris is one of the greatest comedians of our time and I am delighted he is touring Australia again.”

Rock has won four Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards, and is a New York Times best-selling author.

Rock shot to fame as a cast member of Saturday Night Live in the early ’90s. He developed, wrote and narrated the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, and his feature film credits include CB4, New Jack City, Lethal Weapon 4, Dogma, Down to Earth, Head of State and the Madagascar and Grown Ups franchises.

In 2014, he wrote, directed and starred in the acclaimed Top Five, a film about a successful comedy movie star missing his stand-up roots.

Most recently, he received two nominations at the 2016 Emmy Awards — for Outstanding Director for a Variety Special for Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo, and Outstanding Special Class Program for his role hosting the 88th Academy Awards.

Appropriately enough, there will be a total blackout on mobile phones and recording devices during Rock’s Total Blackout tour. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that can only be unlocked at designated stations in the lobby.

In other words, you won’t be able to be that guy who watches the show through their iPhone screen. If you really want a document of the show, you’ll have to wait until it appears on Netflix as part of Rock’s $52 million deal with the streaming giant.

Chris Rock will play the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday 24 June. Tickets go on sale at ticketek.com.au on Friday 24 March at 12 noon.
