Five of the biggest and cheesiest acts of the ’80s — Go West, The Cutting Crew, Wang Chung, Taylor Dayne and Paul Young — are coming to the Eatons Hill Hotel.
Eatons Hill has a knack for booking retro acts, and their latest line-up is no exception.
English pop duo Go West — aka Peter Cox and Richard Drummie — had international success with tracks like ‘We Close Our Eyes’, ‘Call Me’ and ‘Don’t Look Down’. Their biggest hit, ‘The King Of Wishful Thinking’, featured on the soundtrack to Pretty Woman and was a US top 10 hit.
American pop star Taylor Dayne‘s ’80s hits included ‘Tell It To My Heart’, ‘Prove Your Love’, ‘I’ll Be Your Shelter’ and ‘Love Will Lead You Back’, which topped the Billboard charts.
English new wave band Wang Chung had hits with ‘Let’s Go!’, ‘Everybody Have Fun Tonight’ and ‘Hypnotize Me’; the lyric ‘Everybody Wang Chung Tonight’ was later referenced in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, That ’70s Show, Veronica Mars, Cheers and even The Simpsons, so, hey, you know, that’s something, right?
English rock band Cutting Crew are best remembered for tracks like ‘I’ve Been In Love Before’, ‘One For The Mockingbird’, ‘Everything But My Pride’, and of course, the timeless ‘(I Just) Died In Your Arms’.
Finally, Paul Young‘s distinctive voice took tracks like ‘Love of the Common People’, ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’, ‘Come Back And Stay’, ‘Everytime You Go Away’ and ‘Everything Must Change’ to the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, and won him a Brit Award in 1985 for Best Male Artist.
This eclectic line-up of ’80s stars will play the Eatons Hill Hotel (646 South Pine Road, Eatons Hill) on Thursday 9 November, as well as Twin Towns Services Club (2 Wharf Street, Tweed Heads) on Friday 10 November. Pre-sale tickets will be available from Tuesday 21 March, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Thursday 23 March. For more info and tickets, visit abstractentertainment.net.
