Internationally acclaimed dance troupe Pilobolus are returning to Australia with their groundbreaking theatrical event, Shadowland.
After its renowned shadow theatre performance during the 79th Annual Academy Awards, Pilobolus embarked on the creation of an evening-length movement-theatre piece titled Shadowland.
The first production of its kind, Shadowland is part shadow act, part dance performance, part circus and part concert.
The show is particularly acclaimed for its outstanding choreography and for incorporating multiple moving screens of different sizes and shapes to create a performance that merges projected images and front-of-screen choreography in an innovative way.
The story follows the experience of a young girl as she comes of age. Created in collaboration with SpongeBob Square Pants writer Steven Banks (yes, seriously), Shadowland is both intensely dramatic and comedic. It is set to a rhythmic original score by the popular American musician, producer, and film composer David Poe, whose work for Shadowland ranges from ballads to hard-driving rock numbers that lift the audience out of its seats.
To date, Shadowland has performed over 200 shows worldwide, and is currently touring extensively around Europe.
Shadowland, presented by Pilobolus, comes to QPAC Playhouse Theatre from Tuesday 23 August. Tickets go on sale Monday 16 May via www.qpac.com.au.
