The inaugural Redlands Rockabilly Revival will bring a riot of rocking tunes, pin-up fashion and chromed-up cars to Cleveland Showgrounds this Sunday.
Presented by Robot Productions – the company behind the wildly successful GreazeFest Kustom Kulture Festival – Redlands Rockabilly Revival is expected to draw up to 10,000 fans from around the country to revel in rockabilly beats and hot rod culture.
Supported by The Redland City Council, the lively event runs from 10am to 5pm with a packed program of international and Australian live bands and DJs, market stalls, inspiring art displays, a stunning pin-up parade and a gourmet food village, alongside a dazzling display of hundreds of hot rods.
Redlands Rockabilly Revival is a family-friendly event celebrating the lifestyles of the daddy-os and pin-up girls of the 1950s, with the popular subculture tracing its musical roots to Elvis Presley, who combined rhythm ‘n’ blues with country music and created a brand new sound.
Headlining this year’s Rockabilly Revival are The Bellfuries from Austin, Texas, one of the world’s most important and revered rockabilly bands. The band will play their only Queensland show while in Australia, combining heartfelt lyrics and virtuosic vocals with bright and catchy melodies, with influences ranging from Hank Williams to The Beatles.
Holding his own on the bill, Perth’s Rusty Pinto is internationally recognised as one of the best rockabilly singers on the international stage and will showcase his charismatic style and smooth vocals with new trio, Shotdown From Sugartown.
Also performing, Twang, Lovejoy Surf, The E.R.T. Trio and DJ Leapin’ Lawrie collectively represent the cream of the genre’s Australian talent, promising to deliver non-stop shows of foot-stomping fun to excited crowds.
With Cleveland Showgrounds providing a perfect setting for a big rockabilly day out, revellers will find plenty of space for dancing at the concert plaza, while a gourmet food village will boast plenty of tasty options to refuel and relax in the shaded seating area.
Redlands Rockabilly Revival will also feature a huge range of vintage and retro market stalls and art shows displaying paintings, pinstriping, photography, tiki carving, sculptures and more, while the venue boasts sprawling grass fields for hundreds of hot rods at the show ‘n’ shine.
Hot rod enthusiasts will be able to show off their restored pride and joy, while fashion fans can model vintage-inspired summer looks in the pin-up parade.
Redlands Rockabilly Revival will be held on Sunday March 13 from 10am to 5pm at Cleveland Showgrounds on Long Street in Cleveland. For more information visit www.rockabillyrevival.com.au
