It’s Sherwood Community Festival’s 20th birthday party and everyone is invited!
Run entirely by a team of volunteers, the Sherwood Community Festival is taking over the entire shopping precinct to mark its special 20th birthday milestone.
Sponsored by Brisbane City Council and local businesses, this free family event will keep the gang entertained all day long.
There will be free rides for children — with all the favourites including jumping castles, rock-climbing and the tea-cup ride. A petting farm, a nativity play and even a visit from Santa will ensure a day full of surprises for the kids.
The festival will also include a variety of food stalls, a raffle and a competition for the Best Sausage with local butchers vying for bragging rights.
Live entertainment including bands choirs and dance troupes will fill the balloon laden street with festivities and celebration.
The Festival began 20 years ago when the small Brisbane suburb was facing hardship. Business was flagging, spirits were down and graffiti was up. The Sherwood community was definitely faced with a dilemma but instead of giving in, they created an event to showcase the best of Sherwood and their boutique shopping strip to the rest of Brisbane.
To mark the special occasion, the event organisers are encouraging visitors to come in fancy dress with a chance of winning a prize for best dressed!
The festival will take place on Sherwood Road, between Oxley Road and Hedges Street, on Friday 13 November. Click here to check out our Event Guide listing.
