Hall of Famer and world renowned session guitarist Louie Shelton will perform live on stage with a full band at this year’s Broadbeach Jazz Festival!

You would have heard Louie Shelton’s signature guitar riffs and solos on many hit records over the past several decades, including Boz Scaggs’ Low Down , Lionel Richie’s Hello , The Jackson Five’s ABC and I Want You Back and now you’ll get to see him play live!

But, this isn’t just a normal performance; Louie says festival goers can expect a mixture of music styles and tunes from country to blues, jazz and even some hillbilly guitar.

“You won’t have heard anything like it before, no one else does what we do,” he says.

“We’ll actually have our full band, which is not something we get to do very often. It will be like the old days.

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Throughout his career, Louie has worked in many areas of the music industry. He’s collaborated with popular artists including; John Lennon, Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross, has helped develop new bands and even got to produce and compose movie scores and television shows whilst working in Los Angeles.

Louie said he absolutely loves his job and playing the guitar, in fact he can’t remember not playing the guitar.

“I grew up in Arkansas in the Southern parts of the States, there was always country music and most people played the guitar.

“I remember my sister had a guitar and she never played it, as a child I used to drag it around and imitate playing it. I was then given a guitar for my 9th birthday and two years later I was playing.

“I believe I was a natural born talent, it just came so easy for me and anything I heard I could pick up.”

Louie said he loves different styles of music and tries to incorporate that into his performances.

“There are several styles of music that I like; blues, jazz, rock, fusion, classical. But, I could never pick a favourite,” he says.

“I just love wearing all the different hats.”

That way, “everyday it’s something new, different and fun.”

If you’re learning how to play the guitar, Louie has good news for you.

“Anyone can learn to play the guitar,” he said.

“You don’t have to become a virtuoso, just learn a few chords. With the basic three chords you can play pretty much any song.”

But, “It does take time and steady practice.”

Louie Shelton will be performing on Saturday 15 August at the Broadbeach Jazz Festival from 4pm on the Broadbeach Mall Stage.

“I invite everyone to come along; you’re guaranteed to have a good time!” he says.

The Broadbeach Jazz Festival runs this Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.
