The Australia Day long weekend just got a whole lot kookier! Here are some off-the-wall events that are happening in Brisbane,

Cockroach Races at Story Bridge Hotel

Are you looking for the creepiest, crawliest, quirkiest Australia Day celebration in Brisbane? Then look no further than the Story Bridge Hotel. Kicking off at 11am, the race schedule includes 14 heats and more than 500 roaches competing for glory. $5 will ‘purchase’ a cocky that you can name and enter in the races – and start thinking up names now, because the most creative one on the day will land on Story Bridge Hotel’s Hall of Fame.

Let it never be said that Australians don’t know how to have a good time.

Australia Day Esky Races

Spend the Australia Day weekend watching motorized eskies fly around the carpark of The Normanby Hotel. For extra festive flair, Triple J’s hottest one hundred will be played as you watch the nail biting esky races. And if it wasn’t enough incentive to watch eskies race around the Normanby, the two winners of the races will win their very own motorized Esky.

Once the racing is over, the party continues with live music in the Beer Garden and DJs pumping the base till late in Gold Bar nightclub.

Hottest 100 Yoga Flow Class

Nothing says Australia Day party like… If you’re hell bent on sticking to your New Year healthy resolutions on Australia Day, you might want to strike a pose and find some inner peace instead of piking up a beer. Zama Yoga Toowong  are holding a Hottest 100 Flow Yoga class. You can get a decent workout, whilst not missing any of the action from the countdown.

The session will commence at 4pm in both locations, nearing the end of the most anticipated music countdown of the year.
