Fans of cosplay and pop culture, your New Year’s plans are sorted — Supanova and Brisbane Powerhouse are combining their powers for New Year’s Geek.

Supanova and Brisbane Powerhouse will ring in 2015 with live music, DJs, trivia, retro arcade games, film screenings and a cosplay prom.

The event, which is a first for the venue, will take over multiple spaces of the full ground level. Local band Boss Fight will perform their amped-up versions of classic video game tunes at the cosplay prom in the Powerhouse Theatre, while DJs will take to the central Turbine Platform. Film, trivia and retro arcade games will inhabit other areas.

Supanova event director Daniel Zachariou says he’s excited by the potential for the event to be a unique new option for Brisbane party-goers on New Year’s Eve.

“New Year’s Geek is a wonderful opportunity to partner with Brisbane Powerhouse in creating a celebratory atmosphere to ring in 2015 that reflects the things our fans are passionate about, including anime, comics, sci-fi, fantasy and gaming! It’s about fun and expressing your inner geek while having the opportunity to immerse yourself in cosplay personally or socially.

“The Brisbane Powerhouse is such a dynamic space, with an equally inspired team, meaning that fans can look forward to activities such as live music, DJs, trivia and film running simultaneously.

“New Year’s Geek has been created by geeks for the geek in all of us!”

If you’re serious about unleashing your inner Princess Leia, Power Ranger or Doctor Who, you can enter the cosplay prom costume competition on the night.

Your ticket includes a complimentary drink and appetizer, and free shuttle buses will be available to Fortitude Valley at the end of the night. Early Bird tickets are on sale now and will be available until 1 December.
