Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas are back with a bang this spring, with music by day and movies by night at their original Brisbane home at South Bank’s Rainforest Green.

The season runs from September 28 until November 9 and Brisbane is the first stop on the outdoor event’s national tour that reaches 150 000 cinema-goers across Australia.

This year in addition to the films, the Ben & Jerry’s team decided to showcase live local music from an array of Brisbane’s best up-and-coming artists every Sunday as part of the Sundae Sessions.

First cab off the rank is Melbourne band Husky (who have toured with Gotye and Mumford & Sons), who are also the official Sundae Sessions season headliners. The band will be playing before a screening of What We Do In the Shadows at the Charity Launch on September 28. Tickets to the biggest night of the season are on sale now.

With both music and movies to choose from, you will have to set aside some time to get down to South Bank before the short season ends. But this probably won’t be too difficult as the combination of fresh air, delicious ice cream and quality entertainment is very easy to enjoy.

Some films to look out for include…

Lucy – a fast-paced sci-fi starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman which promises to keep you gripped to the edge of your seat.
The Inbetweeners Movie 2 – based on the popular UK sitcom, the sequel documents the boys trip of a lifetime down under.
Begin Again – a romantic comedy starring Keira Knightley, Adam Levine and James Corden.
How To Train Your Dragon 2 – return to the world of Vikings and dragons in this high-flying animated sequel.
Dirty Dancing – the ’80s classic which features some seriously sexy moves
What We Do In The Shadows – the vampire comedy set in New Zealand which received rave reviews at the Sundance Festival.

Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas run for a very limited time between September 28 – November 9 and for more details, head to our event guide listing.
