Logan City’s most elite athletes and inspiring sports people will be recognised during the BDS Logan City Sports Awards in February.
This year’s BDS Logan City Sports Awards will see rugby league legend Darren Lockyer and Australia’s Got Talent Grand Finalist ‘The Other Superman’ pay tribute to Logan City’s most elite athletes and inspirational sports people.
The annual awards will be announced at the prestigious awards gala dinner on Friday 7 February 2014 to be held at the Logan Entertainment Centre.
Testament to Logan’s sporting status, this year’s event will welcome 17-season rugby great, Darren Lockyer, as the keynote speaker and also involve special guest appearances from a number of local sporting heroes.
Mayor Pam Parker says having the chance to listen and learn from a sporting legend like Lockyer was an exciting opportunity for Logan City’s future sports stars.
“Logan is well-known as a leading rugby league nursery which has produced some of our country’s top players.
“Another seven rookies are now on their way to the NRL to join other local stars like Cameron Smith, Israel Folau and Josh Papalli.
“Darren Lockyer, like our local stars, is a great example of what you can achieve when you put your mind to it,” she says.
Former athlete and Paralympics’ silver medallist, Paul Nunnari is also set to wow audiences on the night with his all-inspiring aerial gymnastics.
“I’m taking the chair to another level and that is what I would like to see people acknowledge; that you are only ever defined in life by your own imagination and your definition of possible,” he says.
The 12 category winners will each receive Struddy’s Sports vouchers to the value of $500 and the BDS Sportsperson of the Year will receive a voucher to the value of $1,000.
