Expect to be king-hit when the Broadway smash-hit Elvis musical All Shook Up opens at QPAC Brisbane on November 15.

Elvis will be in the building when the Broadway smash-hit musical All Shook Up opens at QPAC Brisbane on November 15.

This new hip swivelling, lip curling show from Harvest Rain Theatre Company will have you jumping out of your blue suede shoes and dancing in the aisles. It has already taken Broadway by storm and now Brisbane is on its radar.

The songs of Elvis Presley form the backdrop for this hilarious tale of mistaken identity, cross-dressing and star-crossed lovers.  Based loosely on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, but set in the US midwest in the 1950’s, All Shook Up features classics hits like Heartbreak Hotel, Burning Love Jailhouse Rock  Blue Suede Shoes Don’t Be Cruel and many more.

Directed and choreographed by Callum Mansfield, the show reunites the stars of Hairspray, Casey McCollow and Dakota Striplin (The Wizard of Oz). Casey leaves behind the Tracy Turnblad fat suit to tackle the role of Natalie, a lovesick mechanic from a small midwest town who has fallen in love with a motorcycle riding Elvis-esque roustabout Chad, played by Dakota Striplin.

They are joined by Dale Pengelly (Hot Shoe Shuffle), Shaun Kohlman (Blood Brothers), Penny Farrow (The Wizard of Oz), Erika Naddei (Oklahoma!), Leisa Barry-Smith (Divas) and Chris Kellet (Next to Normal)  and a host of other talented musical theatre performers.

“It’s incredibly high energy,’’ producer Tim O’Connor said. ”You really can’t go wrong combining the hits of Elvis with Callum Mansfield’s choreography. It’s just a really great night of escapist entertainment, perfect for the end of a big year.”

If you liked Hairspray, you’ll love All Shook Up. It’s rock ‘n’ roll rebels heaven.
