Hot on the heels of its Australian premiere season in Melbourne, acclaimed musical Kinky Boots is coming to Brisbane.

Taking audiences on a hilarious journey from a bankrupt shoe factory to the runways of Milan, Kinky Boots features Tony and Grammy-winning songs by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, a book by Broadway royalty Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell.

Inspired by a true story and based on the 2005 British film starring Joel Edgerton, Kinky Boots opened on Broadway in April 2013 and won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score Written for the Theatre, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. It opened in London’s West End in September 2015 and won three Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical.

The show made its Australian premiere in Melbourne in October 2016, and will play a Sydney season from April before heading to Brisbane in August.

“This show has left a glittery mark on Melbourne where it played to packed houses and standing ovations each night of its five month run,” Australian producer Michael Cassel says.

“Audiences of all ages have connected with its universal message while being swept up in the incredible music and roof-raising performances from our incomparable cast. I know Brisbane audiences are going to embrace this huge-hearted hit and I speak for the show’s original producers, Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, when I say that we are all incredibly excited to be bringing this show to QPAC.”

Callum Francis and Toby Francis lead the company as Lola and Charlie, the fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos and the young man he inspires with an outrageous idea to revamp the family business.

Rounding out the cast are Sophie Wright (Lauren), Joe Kosky (Don), Teagan Wouters (Nicola) and Nathan Carer (George), along with Blake Appelqvist, James Delisco Beeks, comedy veteran Glenn Butcher, Hilary Cole, Jessica Condon, Denise Devlin, Euan Doidge, Daniel Downing, Bronte Florian, Linden Furnell, Ryan Gonzalez, Samm Hagen, Anthony Harkin, Nicholas Kyriacou, Jenni Little, Liam Peel, Emma Powell, Matthew Predny, Eric Rasmussen, Mark Simpson, Mark Stefanoff and Mitchell Woodcock.

Kinky Boots will play QPAC’s Lyric Theatre from Tuesday 22 August. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 29 March; for more info, visit kinkybootsthemusical.com.au.
