Brisbane is about to welcome its first James Street boutique, right in the heart of Fortitude Valley.

The store will open its doors on Thursday 30 March in collaboration with this year’s marie claire Up Late event, welcoming customers with fashion trends workshops hosted by David Jones ambassador Jesinta Franklin.

Opening in the space formerly occupied by the Space furniture shop, the store will have 1,437 square metres of floor space across four levels.

This will be the department store chain’s second ’boutique’ store nationwide, with the first setting up shop in Barangaroo in Sydney’s CBD last year.

In line with the Barangaroo boutique’s up-market offering, the James Street boutique will have an entry foyer manned by a concierge, as well as a range of beauty services staffed by personal shoppers, advisors and experts.

David Jones originally announced their intention to open a James Street boutique last October.

“James Street is one of Brisbane’s most vibrant shopping and lifestyle precincts, making it an ideal location for our new boutique format,” David Jones CEO John Dixon said at the time.

“This dynamic format enables us to deliver an innovative store experience in a smaller footprint, with a customised fashion and beauty offering and specialised services.

“We are excited to be further growing our footprint in Queensland. The James Street store follows the opening of our recent flagship at Pacific Fair and the announcement of our first Sunshine Coast store, demonstrating our confidence in the state.”

The full schedule of opening day activities will include:

  • 10am — Tom Ford Beauty Masterclass
  • 11am — Swim and Active Wear Fashion Workshop
  • 12pm — Autumn Winter Trends Fashion Workshop
  • 6pm — Jesinta Franklin launches marie claire Up Late
  • 6:30pm — Autumn Winter Trends Fashion Workshop
  • 7:15pm — Weekend Wear Trends Workshop

Everybody is welcome to attend the workshops, and no RSVP is required. The first 100 customers will receive a David Jones gift bag and complimentary coffee.

Shoppers visiting the boutique during the marie claire Up Late event will also be treated to an in-store DJ and a special preview of the fashion, beauty and accessory brands that the boutique store will play home to.

“I’m looking forward to being part of the festivities at marie claire Up Late as we unveil the new boutique David Jones store at James Street,” Jesinta Franklin says.

“We are thrilled to bring our new store concept to Brisbane’s premier fashion retail destination and I hope our customers can join us in store for our fashion workshops and other opening day activity.”

The David Jones James Street boutique store (10 James Street, Fortitude Valley) will open on Thursday 30 March with workshops from 10am.
