Stay on target. Stay on target.

If you’ve ever wanted to fly an X-Wing, this is the next best thing.

The Star Wars-crazed maniacs at Mattel and Hot Wheels have gone and built a full-size, drivable X-Wing car, and they’ll be showing it off at this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con.

The racecar is fully equipped for the jump to hyperspace, with a 2.0 litre, 16 valve DOHC engine, AP dual piston calipers with slotted rotors, custom Slick tires, and, of course, totally awesome blasters on top.

There’s also a working cockpit door that lowers onto the driver, to really give you that feeling of heading off to fight in the Battle of Yavin.

Watch the clip below to see how they did it.

Obviously (but sadly), the X-Wing car is not about to go into production, so unless you happen to be heading to San Diego for Comic-Con this weekend, you’ll probably never get a chance to see it up close.

But we can dream, right?

Last year, Hot Wheels produced a similar car for everybody’s favourite Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader.

We’re guessing the Millennium Falcon — the ship that did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, and is actually meant to be reminiscent of a hot rod — will be coming next year.
