HADOUKEN! Australia’s first Super Combo burger joint will open on King Street at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
King Street’s impressive food and dining precinct continues to grow with the opening of a new burger concept, Super Combo, under The Green apartments at the Brisbane Showgrounds in Bowen Hills.
Super Combo is the brainchild of owners and childhood friends Michael Nham and Hao Vu, who also own NSHRY, a popular beachside eatery in Melbourne. (Michael is also the owner and head chef of Banoi, a Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne.)
As kids, they spent hours on end at the local take-away shop playing their favourite arcade game, Street Fighter, and now they’re going to put their passion for retro gaming — and burgers — to good use.
“The Super Combo experience will not only comprise of quality food and a distinct theme but will also provide a fun and quirky environment that screams old school fun,” Michael says.
The late ’80s and early ’90s fighting game theme is clear from the moment you enter the store, with vibrant splashes of colour and an army of Street Fighter figures descending from the ceiling in grid formation.
Just as Street Fighter II: The World Warrior took its fighters around the globe, Michael and Hao have worked together to create a burger menu for Super Combo that draws inspiration from all around the world.
Naturally, the burgers will be complemented by a selection of sides, alongside a collection of locally and internally sourced specialty sauces and a mouth-watering list of shakes.
King Street project director Andrew Hay says Super Combo will bring something new and exciting to the precinct and to Brisbane.
“Super Combo will bring an impressive menu paired with a vibrant and eclectic dining experience, perfectly suited to King Street’s exciting dining hub,” he says.
“We have carefully curated the food and beverage offering at King Street so that people can experience the best local talent and produce, so it’s no wonder we are fast becoming Brisbane’s favourite foodie dining destination.”
Super Combo will open on Thursday 9 March.
